Sewing & Creative Classes List!
Happy New Year!
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year break.
I had a lovely time relaxing in a beautiful beach house in Ocean Grove .
However now I’m busy taking bookings for all our classes in term 1.
We have some fantastic classes this term including general sewing classes, Zero To Sewing beginner clinic’s, a quilting course, Kids Club and Millinery too!
If you would like to join us here at Rosewood Cottage for some fabulous sewing and creative activities, then please find below the classes we have on offer.
Sewing Classes

Zero To Sewing Beginner Clinic

“Zero To Sewing in a Weekend”

Perfect for complete beginners or those wanting to update their sewing skills!

o Learn how to sew & develop essential sewing skills

o Basic sewing & seam finishing, buttons & buttonholes

o Technical skills using a sewing machine & overlocker

o Introduction to patterns including how to measure to fit your size

o How to read pattern cutting layouts & garment construction

o Understanding fabric selection & fabric types

o Make your very own beginner sewing PJ project !

Sewing machines, basic sewing kit, morning and afternoon tea provided in class.

Held over x2 consecutive Saturdays 7th & 14th February 2015 & 7th & 14th March 2015 9am until 5pm, maximum 8 students with 2 teachers.

Beginner Quilting Class

A fantastic class to make your first quilt! You will learn:

o The simple 9 patch piecing process

o Machine & hand applique & curves

o How to use rulers & cutters

o How to cut fabric for quilting

o How to piece your fabrics together

o How to piece blocks together to form block design

o Sashing, corner stones & how to assemble your quilt

o How to apply a binding to finish your quilt

Our quilting class is perfect for you if you have basic sewing skills & you would love to try

something new by making your first quilt!

Held on Saturday’s 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd May 2015 10am until 3pm, maximum 8 students.

Kids Sewing Club 8-12 years

Learn hand sewing & machine sewing skills

o Create gorgeous sewing projects from pin cushions, tote bags, dolls, PJ shorts, skirts & more!

o Follow step by step instructions

o Complete a project from start to finish

o Sewing machines and equipment provided

o Fabrics, trims & afternoon snack included

o Be creative, make new friends & have fun learning to sew!

Maximum of 8 students per class held on Tuesdays & Thursdays 4pm – 6pm

Millinery Classes
Would you like to make your own fascinator or hat?

Our Millinery classes are great for total beginners or intermediate milliners.
Develop your creative and artistic skills!
Create a head piece or hat to match your favourite outfit or to wear to the races!
Taught by Susan Younis who has outstanding traditional model millinery skills and has been taught by some of Melbourne’s most qualified milliners and visiting milliners from England, America and Europe!

Make your own HAT ~ NEW Millinery Classes

Would you like to make your own hat to match one of your outfits or simply to develop your creative and artistic skills?

We are pleased to announce that we have a brand NEW millinery class starting in Term 4!

Millinery Classes Geelong

Susan Younis is our new Millinery teacher here at Rosewood Cottage.

Susan is a member of the Australian Millinery Association, has a Bachelor of Education in Home Economics and Textiles. She has studied at Rusden State College, RMIT, the Ascot School of Millinery in Melbourne and the Gordon Institute Geelong. She has also completed a short course in Theatrical Millinery with Louise McDonald in Melbourne!

For the past 14 years Susan has developed many skills in traditional model millinery techniques and has been taught by some of Melbourne’s most qualified milliners and visiting milliners from England, America and Europe.

Many of Susan’s hats have been selected as “Best Hat” at Fashions on the Field around race meetings in Victoria including at the Geelong Cup, Bendigo Ballarat and Warrnambool.

Sarah Grace has worn Susan’s hats from Moore and Grace Acting school in Geelong and an actor in Winners and Losers has worn one of Susan’s hats to Emirates Day.

Course Details:

This course includes x2 – 2.5hour lessons on

Wednesday 16th October & Wednesday 23rd October 2013

Times available:

Afternoon: 1pm until 3.30pm
Evening: 7pm until 9.30pm

Course cost: $97

Additional Requirements:

A Sinamay Flower Kit
• Sinamay
• Headband
• Felt Base
• Pattern

This kit can be purchased in your first lesson for $22

Sewing notion requirements you need to bring to your class are:

• Needles-straws
• Selection of sewing threads
• Scissors -NOT YOUR BEST pair – for cutting Sinamay
• Thimble
• 450 glue (from spotlight)
• Dress making pins
• Pliers –long nose
• Metal comb

Please feel free to bring the following items (which can be used to help decorate your flowers):

• Veiling
• Feather tips
• Scraps of lace
• Plain fabric scraps
